Gwen is Director of Teaching and Learning and Senior Lecturer in Music Education at MIC where she has been teaching music education and undergraduate and postgraduate levels for over a decade. She is a member of the international editorial board of the International Journal of Music Education and the book series, Popular Music Matters. Gwen’s doctoral research is the first international study to investigate the experiences of music lecturers and undergraduate students across eleven Irish higher education institutions and she has published these findings in peer reviewed journals such as Irish Educational Studies and Music Education Research. She is an awardee of research funding from the Irish Research Council and the National Forum for the Enhancement of Teaching and Learning in her role as Chair of the Society for Music Education in Ireland www.smei.ie. Gwen is also a member of the ISME INA Council and she served as a member of council of the Society for Musicology in Ireland (2009-2012). Prior to her appointment at MIC, Gwen taught music at primary, secondary and higher levels of education. Gwen was a finalist on two occasions (2010 and 2014) in the Shannon Consortium Award for Excellence in Higher Education Teaching and Learning.
